Digital Strategy Consulting: Technology Roadmaps, Discovery and Platform Selection
The expensive decisions are made before anyone writes code — which platform, which sequence, what to stop doing — and a roadmap is where an organization makes them on purpose.
Pare & Co runs roadmapping engagements for healthcare, public sector, higher education and association leaders who are about to commit a budget and want the argument settled first. We spend days in the room with the people who own the decision, examine what is running today, weigh the platforms honestly against what the organization actually needs, and leave a sequenced plan with the numbers and the reasoning attached.
A Roadmap Is Cheaper Than a Pivot
Most platform programmes do not fail on execution. They fail on a decision made early and quietly — a platform chosen because it was already licensed, an integration assumed rather than tested, a sequence built around who was available rather than around what depends on what. The cost arrives eighteen months later, as a pivot.
A roadmapping engagement front-loads those decisions while they are still cheap to change. Pare puts the people who own the outcome in one room, tests the assumptions against what is actually running, and produces a plan that names the sequence, the dependencies and the money.
| What Does a Roadmap Have to Settle? | What We Examine |
|---|---|
| What are we actually trying to move? | Business goals, audiences and the outcome the investment answers to |
| What is running today? | Current platforms, integrations, content, analytics and technical debt |
| Which platform, and why that one? | CMS, DAM, CRM and composable options weighed against real requirements |
| What has to happen first? | Dependencies, sequencing and the phases that can ship on their own |
| What does it cost? | Scope, budget ranges and the trade-offs behind each |
| What has to be true internally? | Governance, workflow, team capacity and change management |
| What is non-negotiable? | Accessibility, privacy, security and regulatory requirements |
| How will we know it worked? | KPIs, measurement and the baseline to compare against |
What a Roadmapping Engagement Produces
A roadmapping engagement runs two to five workshop days, scaled to how complex the organization is, with preparation before and documentation after. Pare brings the strategy, experience and engineering people into the same room, because a plan written by one discipline is a plan the other two have to renegotiate.
Stakeholder discovery
Interviews and working sessions with the people who own the budget, the platform and the content, before the workshop rather than during it.
Current-state assessment
What is running today, what it costs, where it is fragile and which parts are worth carrying forward.
Technical and platform evaluation
CMS, DAM, CRM and composable options scored against the requirements the discovery produced, with the reasoning written down.
Experience and content analysis
Audience journeys, information architecture and the content operation behind them, examined as one system.
Compliance and risk review
Accessibility, privacy and security obligations named early, where they shape the plan rather than interrupt it.
Prioritized roadmap
A sequenced plan of phases with dependencies, effort and the order that gets value out soonest.
Executive summary
The argument in a form a board or a leadership team can act on without reading the appendix.
Implementation proposal
Scope, budget and timeline for the first phase, so the decision to proceed is a decision rather than another discovery.

The Workshop Is in the Room, on Purpose
Two days in a room with the people who own the decision surfaces what a survey never does: the constraint no one wrote down, the integration one team assumed another was handling, the disagreement between marketing and IT that has been quietly shaping the roadmap for a year.
That is why these engagements are run in person and why the preparation happens first. The workshop is where the arguments get had, and the documentation afterwards is the record of how they were settled — which is the part that survives the people who were in the room.
How Roadmapping Advances Key Business Outcomes
Roadmapping serves whichever outcome the organization is chasing, because it is where that outcome is chosen and made concrete. It sits closest to Growth: the sequence decides how soon value arrives, and how much of the budget is spent on work that turns out to be premature.
It also carries Trust and Intelligence. Accessibility, privacy and security are cheapest when they enter the plan rather than the remediation, and a roadmap is where an organization decides what has to be in place before AI and automation can do anything useful for it.
