Two Decades in Complexity — Rebuilt for the AI Age

Pare & Co is an AI-native digital consultancy, formerly called Oomph. We help organizations solve complex digital problems by starting with the outcome that matters most, then bringing together the expertise, technology and people needed to achieve it.

Our deepest experience is with organizations where getting it wrong has real consequences — healthcare and life sciences, public and social impact, education and learning, fintech, travel, culture and tourism, and enterprise tech and SaaS.

Purpose

See through to the core. Move what matters.

This is our purpose, and the order is by design. Complex organizations rarely have simple digital problems. What looks like a website problem may actually be a trust problem. What looks like a technology problem may be standing in the way of growth. What looks like a content problem may be making it harder for people to engage.

We start by understanding what needs to change and why. Then we focus the work on moving it.

How we work

  1. Lead with the outcome

Most digital engagements are organized around a deliverable or a capability: a new website, a redesign, a platform migration, an AI implementation.

We organize around the outcome — Trust, Engagement, Growth, Intelligence. One usually matters most, so that outcome leads. Strategy, experience design, engineering and integration, data and analytics, applied AI and managed services become capabilities we bring together in whatever combination the problem requires.

It changes the question from “What should we build?” to “What needs to change to move the organization forward?”

  2. Senior judgment. Human and agentic delivery.

AI has changed more than the products we can create. It has changed how the work itself can get done.

Rather than adding AI to the same operating model, we rebuilt ours around it. Senior people own the judgment: what to pursue, what to build, what to cut and what to refuse. Human teams work alongside an agentic fleet that handles a significant share of production, with people reviewing the work and remaining accountable for the outcome.

The result is not AI for AI’s sake. It is a different way to put senior expertise against hard problems.

  3. We live in complexity

We know what it means to work inside organizations with regulatory requirements, security concerns, accessibility standards, complicated approval chains and multiple stakeholders with different priorities.

Our experience in regulated industries is the deepest proof, but not the boundary. The same kinds of complexity exist in higher education, cultural institutions, enterprise technology and other organizations where digital decisions carry consequences beyond the marketing department.

That operating context matters. Good ideas must survive legal review, IT requirements, budget constraints and the realities of the people who have to maintain them.

  4. We call the path

Complexity doesn’t need another layer of complexity.

Our job is to understand the problem, make the choices clear and recommend a path forward. Sometimes that means building something new. Sometimes it means fixing what already exists. And sometimes it means saying that the thing a client came asking for isn’t the thing they actually need.

We frame what’s hard, say what we think and don’t claim capabilities we don’t have.

Two decades of work to build on

Pare began as Oomph in Providence, Rhode Island, in 2007. In 2026, we rebuilt the firm for the AI age.

The through-line across those two decades was never a single industry or technology. It was complex subject matter, little room for error and real approval chains — conditions a health system, a government agency, a museum and a software company can all share.

That experience didn’t disappear when we became Pare. It is what gave us the foundation to build something different.

Leadership

Each of the four outcomes — Trust, Engagement, Growth and Intelligence — is run by a managing director who owns the practice commercially and stands behind the engagements inside it.

The managing director who scopes an engagement is the one accountable for it when it ships. You know the name before the first conversation, and it doesn't change once the work starts.
