Rhode Island’s content platform wins a Government Experience Award

Recognized in State Government Experience by the Center for Digital Government, weeks before the same platform took an Acquia Engage Award.

September 16, 2022

The State of Rhode Island’s enterprise content management system has won a 2022 Government Experience Award from the Center for Digital Government, in the State Government Experience category. The platform was delivered with NIC RI.

Three weeks later the same platform won an Acquia Engage Award for Doers, Leader of the Pack, Public Sector.

What the Platform Does

A state government is not one publisher. It is around a hundred of them — agencies, departments, boards and commissions, each with its own mandate and its own idea of what a web page is for.

The platform’s job is to let all of them publish without the result reading like a hundred different governments: one design system, one accessibility standard, one editorial voice, and a content model that lets an agency say what only it knows while everything structural stays common. The case study covers how the federation was built.

About the Award

The Government Experience Awards are run by the Center for Digital Government, which researches technology policy and practice across state and local government. The program recognizes state, city and county digital experience, judged on how far a government has moved services and information to where residents actually look for them.
