Acquia has released Acquia AI and rebuilt Acquia Source around it. The two were announced together at Acquia Engage Denver on April 28, 2026, and shipped to customers the same day.
What Changed
Source becomes a digital command center: content management, digital asset management, web governance and AI agents on a single surface, built on Drupal CMS. Acquia AI sits inside it, letting a team build, manage and deploy agents from a browser without writing code — agents that optimize content, automate governance work and structure content so answer engines can read it.
Two details are worth more than the headline. The first is human-in-the-loop governance: high-risk agent actions require approval, with audit trails and batch review. The second is that MCP-compatible integration (connecting agents like Claude, Cursor and GitHub Copilot directly to Source) is announced but not yet shipped. Acquia says general availability is planned for a future release.
Why It Interests Us
The governance half is the part that matters in the work we do. Agents that can write, tag, retire and publish are useful in proportion to how much of that authority an organization can actually delegate, and in a regulated environment the answer is never all of it. An audit trail and an approval step are what make the rest usable. Acquia’s own framing puts it well:
Speed without governance isn’t a solution for any team, it’s a liability.
— Ryan Studer, Chief Product & Technology Officer, Acquia
That is close to the argument Pare & Co’s own delivery model makes. An agentic fleet does a large share of the production work, senior people do the rest, and a person reviews all of it, not because the agents are untrustworthy but because someone has to be accountable for what ships.
The rest of it lands on ground we already work: Applied AI as infrastructure rather than as a feature, and structured content as the thing that makes a platform legible to a machine reading it. Pare holds an Acquia Certified Drupal Cloud Practice certification and has joined the Drupal AI Initiative, which is the same question being worked in the open, in the Drupal project itself.
