Pare has joined the Drupal AI Initiative, the Drupal community’s coordinated program for building artificial intelligence into the platform.
What the Initiative Is
Drupal launched the initiative in June 2025 to solve a problem created by its own momentum. The community had built hundreds of AI modules independently, with integrations across major providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Azure and Google Vertex. What it did not have was a single direction for them.
“Drupal already has a strong AI foundation, with many community-built modules,” Drupal founder Dries Buytaert said at launch. “Now, we’re channeling that creative energy into a clear, coordinated product vision.”
The initiative launched with USD 178,000 in operational funding from founding companies, a leadership team drawn from partner organizations, a strategic advisory board and funded delivery roles rather than volunteer ones. That last part matters more than it sounds: open-source initiatives that depend entirely on donated evenings tend to move at the speed of whoever is least busy.
Inside AI and Outside AI
A year in, on June 25, 2026, the initiative split its work into two workstreams, and the split is the clearest statement of what it thinks AI in a content platform actually is.
Inside AI, led by Christoph Breidert, covers AI within the Drupal interface — the editorial experience, and what the people who work in the CMS every day can do with it.
Outside AI, led by Scott Falconer, covers agents acting on Drupal from outside it. That is the harder and less settled half: a platform being read and operated by software rather than by a person is a different set of assumptions about structure, permissions and predictability.
The initiative now spans 32 organizations and more than 50 contributors, shipping against a public roadmap for 2026.
Why This One
We have contributed to Drupal for well over a decade and currently lead the Contact Form track within the Drupal CMS initiative, the effort to lower the barrier to entry for people adopting Drupal for the first time.
The AI Initiative is adjacent to how we already work. Pare rebuilt its own delivery model around applied AI, and the argument we make to clients is that AI belongs where it is the right answer and nowhere else — which is close to the initiative’s own framing of AI-human partnership and responsible adoption without vendor lock-in. Structured content, the thing Drupal has always been good at, turns out to be what makes a platform legible to an agent.
Open-source infrastructure is where that gets decided for everyone at once.
