Go Ask Alice! takes three awards for its redesign

A DANDA Gold, a Silver Digital Health Award and a GDUSA Health+Wellness Design Award — for the resource students reach for when the question is one they will not ask anyone they know.

Go Ask Alice! has won three awards for its redesign: Gold in the Website category of the DANDA Awards, a Silver Digital Health Award for Web-based Digital Health and a Health+Wellness Design Award from Graphic Design USA.

What the Redesign Had to Protect

Go Ask Alice! answers the health questions students will not ask anyone they know. Every answer is researched and written by health professionals, and the value of the whole resource rests on a reader believing that in the first few seconds.

Three decisions protect it. The byline, the editor and the last-edited date sit above the answer rather than below it, because below it is after the point where a reader has already decided. Every response offers a citation a student can take into a paper. And an “Exit Site” control sits in the header of every page, because some of these questions are being asked on a device someone else can see.

The case study covers the safety work and the content architecture behind it, including the Quick Exit Button module the engagement contributed back to Drupal.

About the Awards

The DANDA Awards judge design and aesthetics for digital and print media made for the healthcare industry, and run in seasons rather than annual cycles. The Digital Health Awards, run by the Health Information Resource Center, judge digital health resources across web, mobile and connected categories in spring and fall sessions. The Health+Wellness Design Awards are run annually by Graphic Design USA, which has covered the design profession since 1963.
