The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s website has won a Silver w3 Award in the General Websites category for Cultural Institutions.
The Finding the Project Started From
The clearest signal that a site’s navigation has failed is when the people who work there stop using it. Staff at the museum were reaching their own pages by searching Google rather than by navigating — a habit that says the information architecture had stopped matching how anyone actually looked for things.
The redesign rebuilt the structure around the visit itself: what is on now, what is on next, and how to get in. The case study covers the research and the rebuild.
About the Award
The w3 Awards honor creative work on the web and are judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. Awards are given at Best in Show, Gold and Silver levels across website, marketing, video and social categories.
