Suicide Prevention Now has won a Silver Digital Health Award in the Web-based Digital Health Microsite category. The platform was built for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the recognition is AFSP’s as much as ours: the foundation, with the Action Alliance and SPRC, commissions the bi-annual Harris Poll research the platform exists to deliver.
The Problem the Campaign Had to Solve
Suicide prevention messaging has a hard constraint that most public health messaging does not: the material has to move people to act without harming the people who are themselves at risk while reading it. There are established guidelines for how to talk about suicide safely, and they rule out most of the techniques a campaign would normally reach for.
The platform’s job was to turn attitude into action — to take someone who already cares and give them something specific to do — while staying inside those guidelines throughout. The case study covers the editorial and design constraints in full.
About the Award
The Digital Health Awards are run twice yearly by the Health Information Resource Center, recognizing health information delivered digitally. Entries are judged on content quality, design and usefulness to the audience they serve.
