Live site translation is normally a subscription. You drop in a widget, a vendor translates on the fly, and the bill scales with your traffic — which is the wrong shape for a public-sector or healthcare site whose obligation to non-English speakers does not shrink when the budget does.
Rosetta Live Site Translation takes the other route. It wires Drupal to the open-source Rosetta project running on a server you host, so translation is infrastructure you control rather than a per-view charge. Translations lazy-load so pages are not held up waiting on them, results cache on your own backend, and you scope what does and does not get translated by CSS class or element tag.
Kyle Davis, senior UX engineer, published the project to Drupal.org in August 2025 and cut the first release on September 3. Drupal.org credits Oomph (now Pare & Co) on the project as creator and maintainer.
