The RISD Online Graduate Student Exhibition has been nominated for a Webby Award in the Architecture, Art and Design category.
It is the second nomination in two years for the publications platform it runs on, after “RAID the Icebox Now” was nominated in 2020.
What the Platform Is For
An art school’s graduate exhibition is a physical event with a hard problem behind it: the work is the argument, and photographs of the work are not. A show that moves online has to give each student’s thesis room to be understood rather than flattening everything into a grid of thumbnails.
The publications platform was built so the museum’s editorial team could publish long-form, image-led pieces without a developer, and so each piece could take the shape its subject needed. The graduate exhibition is what that flexibility looks like under deadline, at the scale of an entire cohort.
About the Award
The Webby Awards have honored excellence on the internet since 1996 and are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Nominees are selected from entries worldwide; in most categories fewer than one in ten entries is nominated.
